DO I NEED A RENTAL LICENSE IN SAL?

Yes! As of January 2025, sal Island in Cape Verde has implemented new regulations for short-term vacation rentals, known locally as “Alojamento Local”. These changes aim to enhance transparency, safety and compliance within the rapidly expanding vacation rental sector. You need to make sure you’re compliant.

The main voltage is 220v, compatible with UK appliances, but standard European adapter is required.

There are two additional taxes to pay when traveling to Cape Verde. TSA is the airport tax (often included in your package) and Tourist tax, payable upon arrival at your accommodation. Read more for a full cost breakdown.

Cape Verde is 1 hour behind the UK during standard time and 2 hours behind during daylight saving time. Unlike the UK, Cape Verde doesn’t adjust its clocks for daylight saving.

The trade wind is strongest between November and March. It is a warm breeze which keeps the temperature at a comfortable level. These winds make Cape Verde one of the worlds top destinations for Kite Surfing and Windsurfing.

September is the hottest month with an average daily temperature of 31c and an average low of 25c. The coolest month of the year is February with an average daily maximum of 24c and an average low of 19c. Rainfall is very low throughout the year, September being the wettest month with only 5 days of brief and light rainfall. Sal weather is classed as arid tropical.

TUI operates the only direct flight from the UK at the moment. Departures from Manchester, Birmingham, LOndon Gatwick, Bristol and now Glasgow and Newcastle. There are over 50 direct flights to Sal, Cape Verde every week from 25 destinations, mainly in Europe.

The flight duration ranges from 5 1/2 to 6 hours, varying based on your UK departure airport and the aircraft model.

No, Cape Verde is an African Island Country and does not have EU membership.

The Cape Verdean Escudo is closed currency, only available in the country. It is tied to the Euro at a fixed rate of 110,265 to 1 Euro so you don’t need to work about fluctuating exchange rates. Euro’s are widely accepted across the islands.

The Cape Verde archipelago is in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 570 kilometres (350mi) off the western coast of the African Continent, near Senegal. When you fly from the UK you will fly over The Canaries. Cape Verde is further 900 Miles South.

Mosquitoes aren’t typically bothersome in Cape Verde, although carrying insect repellent is recommended to deter other insects.
